![]() Kenpo Crest | The Kung Fu Kid's Homage to Asian Culture & Martial Arts. The KFK is 47 years old, divorced with 2 children, and highly accomplished, having been a Tech Director for the Rainbow Room and Lincoln Center in New York, explorer, magician and private pilot, as well as a Black Belt in Shaolin Kung Fu and Chinese Kenpo. He lives in Houston. The main focus for this site is a rather comprehensive history of the various forms of martial arts, and there are many. The Kid has a page of Links about homepages, humor, and miscellaneous interests. Leaping out on the KungFu Webring, out of 23 sites, I found myself at: |
Shotokan Karate for Everyone. This framed site is headed by Ed Lafferty, a web developer in New York City. The site is "intended to bring instruction and information about Shotokan Karate...present[ing] history, philosphy and traditions of Shotokan Karate. . . . Unlike most other martial arts sites, this site is not affiliated with any particular school." Each of the topics (History, Philosphy, Technique, Training and Literature) on this site are broken down to more subtopics. The site is wonderfully navigable, and packed with info. Ed is on 4 Martial Arts-related Web Rings. From the Martial Spirit WebRing (164 sites), I leaped to
Brian's Webpage. Brian P. Craig is the webmaster of this site with 3 major areas: Sports (which isn't connected), Comics (Pics of Spider Man and Lady Death), and extensive coverage of Martial Arts, particularly Kwok Wu Chuen, a system taught at Kenny (Sifu) Kuek's Martial Arts Academy in Brockport, New York (near Rochester). A very informational site, Brian's Links are mostly to Martial Arts supply sites and publications. From the Martial Arts Webring, I chopped my way to:
Chinese Health Institute in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The Institute "offer[s] group and private instruction in T'ai-Chi Ch'uan, Chi-Kung, Chin-Na, and meditation, as well as consultations in Feng Shui and Traditional Chinese Medicine" and is meant to be a resource for those interested in the Taoist arts. Sifu Philip Bonifonte, the Webmaster and head of the Institute, also has begun a fictional story about a Martial Artist, which seems quite interesting. In addition to several more direct Martial Arts rings, the Institute/Bonifonte is the owner of the Chinese Internal Arts Webring, which took me to: | ![]() |
North East Zhong Ding, run by Spanner from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. This is a more lighthearted look at martial arts and its philosophy (OK, it's a total satire) by some practitioners of Zhong Ding, which is a proper Martial Art. There is a page of D'Oh! Te Ching (the Tao of Ho Mah Simpson) and such quotes as "Inner peace is all well and good until the fat bastard next door nicks your rice." The site seems to be put together by actual practitioners of the arts, as they have actual serious links, including the Martial Arts WebRing (all these guys belong to the same WebRings, it seems), which has 56 sites, I went to:
![]() | Okinawan Karate and Kenpo, a Martial Arts page about Shorin-Ryu Karate (a traditional Okinawan style), Chinese Kenpo and Kobudo (art of traditional weapons). The site is owned by Renshi Mark Vellucci, a 4th generation descendant in learning from the founder of Shorin-ryu. The most recent entry in the guestbook (with a homepage, that is) was |
Anshin Bujutsu Kyokai Okinawan Karate & Kobudo mastered by Ted Rabino in Phoenix, Arizona, who is also the sensei of the Asian Arts Center in Phoenix. Much info on the Center itself, an on-line newsletter and a Women's Page. Minutes before I arrived, the Guestbook had been signed by: |
Shitoryu Karate. This is Sam Moledzki's Page of Canadian Shitoryu Karate. Sam lives in Toronto and gives a history of his discipline, from the origins in Japan up to the present day with detailed (and wonderfully illustrated) biographies of his mentors, up to his own in the present day. Sam himself is a member of the NKA Referee Council. He links to literally nothing else (it's coming), but his Guestbook had just been signed by:
The Homesite of Serge Sushko, a 29-year-old programmer who lives in Moscow. Yes, Random Leaper makes his first foray into Russia. The above banner will link you to a Shareware Program that sounds useful. Serge also has a large Shito-Ryu Karate site, explaining the principles and teachings of this discipline. Serge is a member of the Martial Arts WebRing, so back I went to that:
. Back to the USA here at the Fighting Crane USA GoJu Ryu Karate Do Home Page. Fighting Crane is the name of a Dojo in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. Cianelli, Sensei gives us the history of this more recent martial art creation, which is more for self defense than sport. There is also a detailed Introduction to Iaido (Japanese Swordsmanship). A special feature here is a Search Engine page, where the surfer can access individual searches without going to the engines' particular sites. White Crane is part of 6 WebRings, the first I came to which had not been used was The American Karate Webring.
SPLITZER's Area. The first thing Splitzer shows us is why he has this nickname -- OUCH! Splitzer was a purple belt by the age of 7; and a Black Belt by 9. Not as detailed as the previous sites on this page, but in many ways more accessible. He has pictures with his Sensei and class, and also some riddles, a basketball page, and a Mortal Kombat page. Splitzer is on two other WebRings, including the Kids Web Ring, which took me to another page:
